On November 8 2018, D16 Coffee was honoured to participate in this year’s Grand Gourmet, held in Makarska’s Hotel Meteor, as a specialty coffee sponsor. The four day hospitality event hosted chef, waiter, bartender and barista competitions as well as several educational workshops, lectures and presentations.
D16 Coffee kicked off the coffee segment with a presentation by Ana Pipunic, specialty coffee enthusiast with ten years industry and competition experience, who talked about specialty coffee and it’s significance in the overall coffee industry. Specialty-graded coffee, unlike commodity coffee, adheres to the highest standards of quality control at producer, buyer, roaster, and barista level, to ensure the best coffee experience to ever-knowledgable and curious consumers. According to the Specialty Coffee Associations, specialty coffee represented 59% of the US market in 2017, 20% more than a mere seven years prior.
Before heading up the barista and latte art competitions, D16 Coffee’s Head Barista, Stanislav Jurisic showcased three delicious espresso and cold brew coffee based cocktails which everyone will be able to taste in D16 Coffee’s cafes from Spring 2019.
Competitors from Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro participated in the barista and latte art competitions, judged by Stanislav Jurisic, Ana Pipunic and professor Dragan Todorovic from Split’s School of Hospitality. The three part competition covered sensory, signature drink and latte art.
Congratulations to Radul Dubljevic, winner of the Grand Gourmet 2018 Barista Competition, Maj Novakovic (silver) and Tjasa Rogelj (bronze) as well as all competitors who made an exceptional effort.
We tasted and saw some fantastic coffee from our passionate barista competitors and we look forward to seeing you at Grand Gourmet 2019.
